"Dropping the Reins (DtR) is a not-for-profit organization developed in 2009 to give the unique experience of being around horses to those who would not ordinarily have the opportunity. It is also for those who are seeking renewal, self-discovery, and empowerment in their lives. DtR seeks to help caregivers and their families by providing them with time to refresh and reflect on their care-giving experiences. For adults, the equine experience can lead to personal examination that enhances and alters life directions. For children, the experience of grooming and riding horses and ponies can free them from personal trauma in their lives.
DtR serves those who are going through transitions in their lives and want to experience the power and gentleness of horses as a way to move from anxiety, grief, loss, or feelings of being stuck, to new directions, that help pave the way to personal renewal and satisfaction. Horses have the uncanny ability to unleash an individual's quiet inner strength that provides the fuel to move forward and out of feeling trapped in personal circumstances. Equine experiences should not replace prescriptive therapies from medical and behavioral professionals. However, spending time around horses is a powerful experience that can provide relief from personal challenges."
